Death Note: The OCs (Part 10)

*He goes back to his apartment, and sits down. H looks to a picture on the table and picks it up. It's of him and L Lawliet...*

*Flashback*

*Henry Watson was at the age of 14 when he was at Wammy's House. He's twirling a pen as he tries to solve a Sodoku puzzle*

H: Hmm...*solves one line...and he looks, seeing Near*

Near: *sits at the corner quietly doing his white puzzle, putting the pieces together and is abt 70% done*

Mello: *is sitting by the window, eating a chocolate bar*

*Henry continues his puzzle until Watari comes in* Watari?

Near: *twirls a strand of his hair as he figures out which piece he should continue until he heard Henry and looked up quietly to see Watari standing there*

Mello: *looks also, seeing Watari asking Henry to go with him somewhere*

Near: *looks at Mello, giving him a quiet "should we go after them" look on his face*

Mello: *shaking his head, giving him "Maybe we should let them be." look*

H: Where are we going, Watari?

Watari: i'd like you to meet someone today. Someone very special

H: Someone special? *gets into the back of the car and gets out a sodoku puzzle, doing it as they head to a building*

Watari: *drove H all the way to the building, then took his hand and led him up the floor where L is* Ryuuzaki-sama, I have the boy here

L: *spins around in his seat in his usual crouched and knees near his chin position to look at them*

H: W-Watari...is he...is he L?

Watari: That's right.

H: *goes to L and bows* It is an honor to meet you, L

L: *got off the chair and walked in his slouched way towards H and patted his head* You are much shorter than your picture

H: T-thanks, L...

L: Watari told me it's your birthday today. Here *gives him a lollipop* I don't go out much these days coz of work, but it's the best gift I can give you

H: *Takes it from L* Thank you, L...*sees the TV screens* Isn't this about that killer, Kira?

L: I see you've done your homework. Yes, it's about him. We have reason to believe that he may be in Japanese, since it all happened there, so I'm going to leave for Japan the day after tomorrow *turns and smile a little at H* I just wanted to meet all my possible successors before I leave

H: I know you met Near and Mello....*stops* wait, successors? But, didn't you talk to everyone via computer? How come I'm the only one who meets you in person?

L: You're not the only one I met in person. I've met Mello and Near too. You just missed me. I met them when they were a lot younger

H: *looks at the screen...it was about the Shinjuku killer* Is that why you think Kira's in Japan? Because of the first victim being the Shinjuku killer? *thinks about it* He could've been a guinea pig, Kira testing out his newfound powers

L: Most possibly. That's why I have to leave for Japan so that I can study the case in better detail with the locals there

H: *looks on a map* I think he's in a big city region...like Tokyo or Kanto....

L: *nods in agreement* You know what, Henry?

H: yes, L? *looks up to him, putting the lollipop in his mouth*

L: You're just as smart as Near and Mello put together.

H: *Smirks a bit* Mello, yes...but Near...he's better at puzzles than I am

L: True, but he still has a lot to learn. If only those two would get along...

H: That's the thing...if they worked together, they can be good as you

L: Possibly, in a 95% certainty

H: Kira...*looks at the numerous reports on the screen* It looks like he's trying to purge the world from evil...yet he's becoming the very person he hates

L: We cannot be sure of his motivations yet, but one thing's for sure, he is a murderer, and murderers, regardless their justifications of their acts, must be put away for good

H: That is true...I hope you get him L...after all, you're the best detective in the world

L: *smiles and pats H on the head, then give a peck on his forehead in a brotherly fashion*

Watari: Would you like to take a picture of this day, Henry-san? If that's OK with you, Ryuuzaki-sama

H: A picture with L? Sure! *is getting all excited*

L: *nods and picks Henry up to put him on his lap while he sat on his chair* We're all set

Watari: *chuckles* Alright now, ready?

H: *nods* Yes, sir *looks up and smiles at L before looking at the camera*

Watari: On three, 1...2... *snaps the photo. A few seconds later the polaroid photo came out. He shook it before passing it to L and took another one for Henry to keep*

*H takes the photo from Watari and looks at it* thank you...both of you

*Months later....He gets a private message from Roger before he tells Mello and Near*

H: What is it, Roger? *heads into his office and closes the door*

Roger: *takes off his glasses* Sit down, Henry

H: *Sits down* what's wrong?

Roger: L's dead, and so is Watari

H: *the color in his face drops* W-what? L's dead!? No! *slams his fist into the desk* it can't be! L said he'd catch Kira!

Roger: Well, we don't really know the full details yet, but after Watari died, an auto-email came in to tell us about him and L's death and according to the email, L would like you to be the first to know before I break it to the other boys

H: You mean...Near and Mello

Roger: *nods* Everyone thought Near is his favourite. Everyone thought Near is bound to be his successor. In capability-wise that could be true, but from the auto-email we read, L wanted to tell you that...~you~ have always been his favourite since the first day he laid eyes on you when you came to Wammy House

H: *smiles, flipping a coin and then catching it* well, I do admit...Near does have qualities that I lack...he's calm and collected...Mello takes action...*sighs* I think Near has the skills to L's successor

Roger: Still doesn't change the fact that L liked you better than them

Mello: *comes in* So, is it true? About L?

Near: *has his puzzle in hand and sits on the floor working on it, but in reality he was all ears*

Roger: Yes, it is. We don't have the full details, but it is possible that L has been killed...by Kira

H: Mello...Near...you two heard it?

Mello: We're not dumb, Henry...*bites into a chocolate bar*

H: *Sighs heavily and looks to Roger* I'll take the mantle...but I'll do it AFTER I catch L's killer

Roger: We are not rushing into who'll be taking his mantle, but yes we must catch the killer

Mello: Well see who will be L's successor...I'm leaving.

Near: *watches quietly as Mello left* I have no intention to fight abt taking L's mantle. It would be an honour to receive it, but I don't put much thought to it

H: Near...*kneels to him, picking up a puzzle piece* Would you like to catch Kira?

Near: *nods quietly*
